UPTAC 2026 admission and counselling process
UPTAC 2026 has 5 counselling rounds and 2 special rounds. The candidates who are eligible for UPTAC counselling must complete the registration, upload the required documents, undergo document verification, fill in their choices, check the allotted seats, submit their willingness, and pay the seat confirmation fee. The candidates must physically report after the online UPTAC 2026counselling concludes to complete the admission process.
Clear Your Entrance Exam
Appear and qualify in JEE Main 2026 (for B.Tech), NATA 2026 (for B.Arch), CUET UG/PG (for other programmes), NIMCET (for MCA), or CAT/CMAT (for MBA). Your rank or score in the relevant exam is the sole basis for seat allotment. There is no separate UPTAC entrance test.
Register on the Official UPTAC Portal
Visit the official UPTAC 2026 portal at uptac.samarth.edu.in. This is the new Samarth e-Gov portal for UPTAC 2026 admissions. Register using your JEE Main application number and password (for B.Tech candidates). For other courses, use the relevant exam credentials. Registration is open from May 25 to June 15, 2026. This is a one-time process — it does not reopen after the deadline
Pay the Registration Fee for UPTAC 2026
The UPTAC 2026 registration fee is ₹1,000 for all categories. This fee is non-refundable under all circumstances. Payment is accepted via net banking, debit card, or credit card.
Upload Documents for UPTAC 2026
Upload scanned copies of all required documents through the UPTAC portal. Before filling the UPTAC 2026 Counselling form, students should read the 6 official PDFs carefully. These PDFs explain the counselling process, eligibility rules, CUET UG and CUET PG paper mapping, certificate formats, admission priority, and subject requirements for different courses. Do not upload blurred or invalid documents — rejected documents can disqualify your application.
Document Verification by AKTU
AKTU officials verify your uploaded documents online between May 28 and June 20, 2026. If your documents are rejected, you will receive an SMS and email with the reason. Rectify and re-upload within the stipulated window.
Fill and Lock College Preferences
During choice filling, candidates are permitted to list an unlimited number of college and branch combinations based on their eligibility and rank. Because the system assigns seats automatically based on merit and the order of these preferences, applicants must carefully prioritise their selections.
Choice filling for Round 1 is open from June 22 to June 25, 2026. Fill the maximum possible choices. Candidates who fill more choices have a significantly higher probability of getting a seat. Strategically order government colleges and top private colleges at the top of the preference list.
Seat Allotment for UPTAC 2026
After the UPTAC choice filling process is over, seat allotment is done based on merit and JEE Main ranks. The seat allotment result is made available under the respective login of candidates on the portal. Round 1 seat allotment is on June 27, 2026.
Submit Willingness and Pay Seat Confirmation Fee
After receiving a seat allotment, log in and respond with your decision:
- Freeze — Accept the current seat and confirm admission. No further upgrade attempts.
- Float — Accept the current seat provisionally and participate in the next round for a better preference.
- Slide — Participate in the internal sliding round for a branch upgrade within the same college.
- Withdraw — Exit counselling. Withdrawal is allowed in Round 2, Round 3, and Round 4. If you withdraw, the refund is processed after deduction of ₹1,000. Shiksha-tech
The seat confirmation fee is ₹20,000 for General/OBC candidates and ₹12,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. This fee is adjusted against the total college fee at the time of reporting.
Physical Reporting at Allotted Institute
If you fail to report within the given timeline, your allotted seat will be cancelled, and you may be disqualified from further counselling rounds. Report to the allotted institute on the notified date with original documents and two sets of photocopies. Pay the remaining college fee directly to the institute.
Special Rounds — Second Chance for Vacant Seats
Special rounds are conducted in August for vacant seats. Special rounds are open to candidates from all over India — not just UP domicile students. Candidates who did not get a seat in the four main rounds or who wish to participate in late admissions can apply during special rounds

Choice Filling Tip for UPTAC 2026
- Preference Matters: AKTU’s algorithm starts from the top of your list. Put your dream college at 1st, even if you think your rank is low.
- Auto-Locking: If you forget to lock your choices, the system will auto-lock your last saved list on June 25th.
- The “Float” Trap: If you choose “Float,” you must still pay the seat confirmation fee (₹20,000/₹12,000) to stay in the counseling. If you don’t pay, you lose the seat and are kicked out of future rounds.
- Verify document status actively: After uploading documents, log in regularly to check if AKTU has raised any query. A rejected document can cost you your seat if not rectified in time.
- Prioritise government colleges: Government AKTU colleges like IET Lucknow and HBTU Kanpur have far lower fees (₹35,000–₹75,000 per year) and strong placement outcomes. If your rank is competitive, always put these at the top.
